History 2 of 3

2. History 2

On July 1st 2008, two rugby clubs with over 210 years of rugby history came together to form one of the largest amateur rugby clubs in the Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire & Lincolnshire Rugby Union.
The merger of Boots Athletic RFC and Nottingham (Community) Rugby - the recently formed amateur arm of Nottingham Rugby Club, has been fully approved by both memberships at a Special General Meeting held on July 1st.
In total, the active playing membership will be in excess of 400; with social membership available, it is likely that the club will have over 500 members!
Its active role at Lady Bay sports ground will continue, with potential further ground & clubhouse improvements and stronger links with other sports teams, this will become one of the busiest sports grounds in Nottingham.
A new interim committee was approved at the SGM. Congratulations go to all involved, especially to Dave Fawcett, a Boots RFC stalwart, who was appointed Chairman of the merged club. I am sure each and every member will be keen to support the committee and play an active part in these progressive times. Please remember that the whole club now runs on voluntary help; it's your club; please get involved wherever you can. As a grass roots rugby club if none comes forward to help with the various tasks, they simply won't get done! Please talk to your manager, coach or committee member if you feel you can help in any way.
Let's remember our heritage, with the game of Rugby Football Union at its heart, and celebrate this development!
