Weekend Round-Up 11 October 2027

Bev Borkowski

Lots of action home and away

Midweek

Walking Rugby

An evening of driving rain and blustery winds weren't enough to send the Vikings to the pub early, despite some strong opinions to the contrary! Our large mixed team showed some skills with the ball and definitely no running.

Saturday

Men's team.

Corsairs had their first run out with Nottinghamians II v’s a well drilled West Bridgford III. Honours were even at half time with two converted scores each. In the second half the fitness and physicality of the West Bradford team shone through and they pulled away to win a fun but gritty contest seemingly played across all four seasons!

Sunday

U14 v Paviors (home)

U14s took on Paviors this week and came away with a 31–0 win. The lads played some excellent attacking rugby and worked hard for each other in defence to keep a clean sheet. Seb was named Player of the Match after an outstanding performance in the centres.

U13s v Nottingham Casuals (home)

U13s hosted Nottingham Casuals at the bay. Casuals got off to a great start with a couple of early tries out on the wing. Corsairs responded with a great individual try.

As the match went on Casuals constant pressure paid off and ran out 9-3 winners.

Both teams shared a meal in the club house afterwards and there was a fantastic atmosphere all round.

U12 v Keyworth (away)

U12s outmuscled a physically larger side upfront at Keyworth, before unleashing the backs to run riot. Corsairs chemistry was apparent as they played as a single unit. Two new but experienced players made impressive debuts for the club.

In the last play of the game one of the team picked up an injury and we all wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch.

U11s v Keyworth (away)

U11s also played away at Keyworth. Perfect rugby weather, the match was in the balance at half time. Try scoring exploits from Teddy Marshal (among others) earned him Attacker of the Day. Great line speed in defense and more committed tackling, lead by William Eddington saw him pick up Defender of the Day and Corsairs end on a high.

U10s v Keyworth (away)

U10s fielded two teams against a well-organised Keyworth side in a morning of competitive rugby.

Both teams played two matches, digging deep to match Keyworth's energy and intensity. Some excellent attacking runs and slick passing created well-earned tries, while Keyworth responded with some impressive rugby of their own.

Defensive improvements were evident, with Thursday night's training clearly paying off.

Stronger tackling, greater commitment and determined defensive play led to some fiercely contested midfield battles against tough opposition.

Another positive performance from the Corsairs, showcasing their continued progress, teamwork and determination.

A big thank you to Keyworth for a brilliant morning of rugby!

U9’s Training

U9s took the opportunity to have another training session.

They focused on some handling and tackling drills, which were then tested in a game. Some really good progress, and a lot of fun.

U8s v Keyworth (away)

What a fantastic morning for our U8s! Glorious autumn sunshine, a cracking day of rugby away at Keyworth.

Both sides served up some exceptional rugby. Our boys lit up the field with darting runs, backed up by brilliant support play that kept the ball alive and the parents on their toes. When the opposition had the ball, they stood firm with gritty, determined tagging in defence, never giving an inch.

A huge thank you to Keyworth, who were warm and welcoming hosts as always. Proud coaches, happy players and plenty of smiles all round. Roll on the next one!

U7s v Keyworth (away)

U7s managed to field three teams against Keyworth today! It was fantastic to see so much of what we’ve been working on in training being put into practice, with the players really starting to get to grips with the basics of the game.

It was particularly pleasing to see so many getting into great positions, working hard and supporting their teammates.

Lots of progress already, especially considering this was only their second round of matches! Well done, everyone!

U6 Rugby Based Activities

U6s continued to practice their passing skills today along the line.

They also undertook some 1v1 attackers vs defenders and enjoyed knocking over some huge tackle pads during the relays.
