Being a man of few words already it wasn’t difficult to be left speechless by the amazing performance we saw today. We’d all spoken before the game about our hopes for the boys but after the 1st half against Oakham it became clear that they’d ALL stepped up another gear or maybe even 2!
Tough tackling by Archie, Kyle and Conner set the tone from the outset and the rest of the guys, not to be outdone, followed suite. Going forwards Woody, Will, Oli, Toby and especially Ethan punished the opposition again and again. Fletcher, Reece, George and Joe were outstanding with support, tackling and ball carrying.
The wings were too quick for the opposition to outflank and more than once got the ball back by bundling the carrier into touch. The line was long and organised, looks like getting the coaches of the field has allowed their voices to be heard with constant communication allowing the defensive line to take repeated attacks without breaking.
The final was a tense affair, an early try by Woody the only score before half time. After the half Notts went 3-1 up before Market Raisen managed to claw back 2 tries. A late score by Notts gave them the lead before MR laid siege to the Notts try line. Try as they might there weren’t getting in.
Great start to the season and well done to the lads on their 1st contact tournament!!
