Well, what a fantastic start to the new season.
To say the lads haven’t played in the last few months they certainly jelled back together nicely.
Matlock certainly gave our lads some rough points during the game. Great passes by them and the tackles too, but our forwards on their off load and in rucks was fantastic. 8/10 times we regained the ball which gave us plenty of opportunity to get through their line. Once the first try was scored there was no stopping them. Our lads kept their heads down and focused. A couple of times Matlock were close to our try line but the whole team defended it and won the ball back.
Having only had 4 training sessions on the new rules and having to learn to throw the ball higher and longer, jump in at line outs and contest in scrums you’d think they were doing it last season.
We, as parents, have noticed that majority of teams have matured a lot quicker than ours, and we look at them and think this is going to be a close match. We may not be the biggest team, but our lads certainly know how to tackle and tackling right stops them from getting to our try line and today that showed.
The score today does not reflect the determination and effort that both sides showed, and well done to Matlock for not giving up the fight.
