U11s on the front foot

Despite the Kesteven Festival going non-competitive as per the RFU rulings the team knew a lot of pride was at stake coming into the season opener.

We started with comfortable wins against Oakham and Sleaford to ease them into the new rules. The U11s now have tactical kicking & marks but for the 1st two games we think they only kicked once and this was the theme across all teams.

The real tester came in the final game against a fairly strong Kesteven squad who disrupted our play very effectively. The teams traded tries in the 1st half (1-1) and we allowed them more air with poor discipline and some interesting positioning.

For the 2nd half we stepped up a gear with the backs once again returning to the wings and Ethan generating a lot of go forward up the center. The quality of the Corsairs started to grind away at the Blacks with the final try of the game being a wonderfully worked try from a set piece scum in our own territory; we had Matt, Oli and Woody lined up moving at pace, sucking in defenders and shipping the ball just like a training ground exercise to close the game 3-1 and on top.

So there you have it; 4 seasons and still undefeated at Kesteven.

Well done lads and good luck at Coalville next week.
