It's no secret that at Corsairs we've been somewhat lacking in the Men's team department for some time now. Critical mass is something we've struggled to find but we are hoping that by teaming up with our great neighbours in purple, the Nottinghamians, we can pull enough players together to get a team out regularly.
This has started out with some joint training sessions. Which have been very well attended.

The picture shows the first session and last week there were 27 players in attendance, meaning we could finish the session with a big game. Nottinghamians first team play in Midlands 3 and the second play in the merit league so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.
The first joint fixture was this weekend against West Bridgford's 3rd team who have performed very well in previous merit leagues and are a well drilled side.

Seven Corsairs, new and old, (some both actually) made it onto the team sheet, while an injury and a misplaced commitment meant that five made it onto the pitch, which still beats our last outing with Moderns by two players!

The game itself was surprisingly competitive, for the first half at least. All four seasons attacked the players, and the when the sun finally started shining the ball was like a bar of soap. Honours were pretty much even at half time, but some well drilled scrummaging and strong running let West Bridgford pull away to take a convincing win.
What we took away was some green shoots though, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the run out and are keen to return. We'd love to see some more new and old faces down to join us on a Tuesday or even if you just fancy some game time.
